The Patek Philippe 5531R-010

Patek Philippe, Reference 5531R-010 “New York By Day”, one of five of its kind, in a series of ten enamel dials at auction for over $2M. I had the unique opportunity to join the team on an expedition to Jersey City, where the view on the enamel dialed World Time Repeater is matched perfectly.

It took us a few tries to get the image perfectly right. The day was really cold, and the longer we stayed out on that dock, the stiffer our fingers got, and the bigger the risk was for the watch’s integrity. We stayed out there for a solid hour, and rewarded ourselves with a coffee as soon as we were done with the photoshoot.

The marketing campaign for the watch, and that sale overall by the Sotheby’s team was exceptional, and the sale results were all the team hoped. It was by far one of the best experiences I had working at the company.

Enameller Anita Porchet created a series of ten watches, five of which depicted a New York City skyline at night, and half were the same view in the day time.

It took our team a few tries to find the exact spot from our neighboring city of New Jersey where this view of the freedom tower is visible.

It was a crisp winter day, one of those bright blue ones that match that crisp enamel. I went was the watch rep, which meant that under no circumstances was that watch to acquire any new markings during its day out on the town.

Our colleague came along, as our trusted stand-in model, to wear the watch in the shoot, and of course, a few members of the production team.
